We all are pretty aware of the benefits of exercise. But probably not in the fact that just 1 hour per week can have significant impact on reducing depression. Also, the majority of the protective benefits come irregardless of intensity of the exercise including lower intensities . What is amazing about this study is it demonstrates that 12% of future cases of depression could be prevented if participants engaged in at least 1 hour of physical activity each week. That is a pretty big return on a small time investment.

"With sedentary lifestyles becoming the norm worldwide, and rates of depression growing, these results are particularly pertinent as they highlight that even small lifestyle changes can reap significant mental health benefits."  said Associate Professor Harvey.
